Robin Swanson is a strategist and communications expert with more than 20 years of political experience under her belt, working inside the Capitol buildings in both Washington, D.C. and Sacramento, California.
Swanson has spent the past 15 years running political, issue-based and public affairs campaigns across California, and is dedicated to making sure her clients get the winning results they deserve. She works with political candidates, ballot measure campaigns, non-profit organizations, public agencies and corporate clients.
Swanson specializes in strategic communications and media relations, regularly providing on-air commentary for both local and national news programs. She is currently a regular political analyst on CNN and CNN International, as well as Sacramento’s NBC station, KCRA-3. Swanson is frequently quoted in newspapers across the country, including the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and dozens of others. She works with issue-specific and political reporters on a daily basis advocating on behalf of her clients.
One of only ten Democrats nationally to be named a “Rising Star of Politics” in 2007 by Campaigns and Elections magazine, Swanson has worked on a diverse array of ballot initiative and issue campaigns, legislative and statewide races, and has served as the Communications Director for the Speaker of the California State Assembly.
Swanson is known for putting together unlikely victories for her clients by creating and managing comprehensive communications strategies. She is known for being detail-oriented and an early riser who works to get ahead of the day’s news.
Swanson received a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia and a Master’s degree in Government from Johns Hopkins University.
Inez Kaminski is a senior consultant at Swanson Communications specializing in press, digital media and public and government affairs.
Inez directs digital media and serves as press secretary for Californians for Consumer Privacy, the organization supporting groundbreaking privacy rights for consumers through the California Consumer Privacy Act statewide ballot initiative and legislation (AB 375). Inez directed the digital media campaigns for the successful Yes on Proposition 58 – The LEARN Initiative statewide campaign, which passed by 47 points in November 2016, and the American Heart Association’s sponsorship of AB 1719 (Rodriguez), which passed in September 2016 requiring California’s high school health classes to teach CPR, in addition to spokesperson roles in both campaigns. Inez was a member of the digital and earned media relations team for Californians for Water Security, supporting the Governor’s California WaterFix. She also worked on Californians for Coordinated Care, the coalition supporting the Coordinated Care Initiative to provide improved health care for 1.2 million Californians. Inez has previously worked on communications, rapid response and special projects for the California Democratic Party, and has worked in government relations with California state and federal representatives for Google.
Prior to joining Swanson Communications, Inez worked in content development for Banyan Global Learning, an international education company, primarily with expansion of Interactive Distance Education in the English Language (IDEEL) programs. Inez also worked in the field operation of California’s 7th Congressional District’s highly contested, successful reelection of Congressman Ami Bera in 2014.
Inez received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis.
Dawn Nelson manages event planning, human resources and billing for Swanson Communications.
Dawn previously worked as a Human Resources Manager for the Northern California region of Macy’s Federated Department Stores for over a decade. She has also worked for the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington DC and for several Sacramento-area radio stations.
Dawn received a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Communications from California State University, Sacramento. Dawn has 3 teenage boys and is married to a firefighter.
Marisa assists clients and senior staff with outreach and issue management.
Marisa worked on the California Consumer Privacy Act campaign, an initiative that qualified for the November 2018 ballot that spurred groundbreaking legislation to empower Californians to take back control of their personal information. Marisa is also working on events for “Burton and the Brains,” the political consulting firm of John Burton and Angie Tate.
Prior to joining Swanson Communications, Marisa worked on the Proposition 13 civic engagement project, aimed at closing the property tax loophole for big corporations. Marisa also worked as an advocate for Communities for a New California Education Fund to support after-school programs in California. In 2016, Marisa worked for United Latinos’ voter registration and outreach efforts.
She recently returned to Sacramento from South America and Mexico, working to hone her Spanish-speaking skills.
Marisa was born and raised in Sacramento, California and received a Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Chico.
